Here’s a quick sampling of all the books I enjoyed from April to July 🙂

Two of the books made it into the Book Nook as five star reads for 2025, a special thanks to “The Unworthy” and “Chain-Gang All-Stars” for being such amazing stories to experience.
I reread “The Hunger Games” in preparation for “Sunrise on the Reaping”, an unquestionably great reread, always. Somehow always timely and depressingly reflective of our current social/ economic/ civic state. Hands down a hall of fame series.
“Hood Feminism” was informative and left me sitting quietly, reflecting on my own role in the world as a young, white woman who claims the identity of feminist. It struck me as a solid introduction to intersectional feminism and a worthy read.
I have thoughts about “Wicked” and shockingly, not all of them positive. This was the first time I read it; I had only experienced the Broadway play adaptation and then the movie that came out this year. It was fascinating to experience the origins of the iconic adaptations, but the story didn’t hold me the same way. It was quite meandering and fairy-tale like, but with huge jumps of time between climactic events. I stepped into it excited about reading the story I had grown to love, but quickly found it stood on its own. It was a completely different experience from the play, much more focused on political intrigue and tragedy, decades lost to grief and strange characters adopting each other. It ended, and that was it. No redemption, no closure, just the end. Many stories are like that, I suppose. If you’ve never read it, I suggest you give it a try and see how it sits with you. It wasn’t my favorite experience, but it was an enlightening one.
Thank you for reading 🙂
